MOT due date
Not due yet? Don’t forget it
You can test up to a month minus a day early and keep the same renewal date. Driving on an expired MOT can mean a fine of up to £1,000 and invalid insurance.
What’s checked
The full MOT, tested properly
Our DVSA-nominated testers work through every item on the official checklist. Here’s what they look at.

Lights & electrics
Every bulb, beam pattern, indicator and the battery and wiring.

Tyres & wheels
1.6mm tread across the centre ¾, cuts, bulges and the right size.

Brakes
Pads, discs, lines and a roller test of braking efficiency.

Steering & suspension
Springs, shocks, joints and bushes, checked from underneath.

Visibility
Windscreen chips in the driver's view, wipers and washers.

Exhaust & emissions
Leaks, security and an emissions test to the legal limit.

Seats & seatbelts
Every belt, buckle and seat mounting, front and back.

Warning lights
Airbag, ABS, engine and other dashboard warning lamps.
Did you know?
27.51%
of cars and vans fail their MOT first time
Lights are the number one reason, often a single blown bulb. We fit bulbs and wiper blades during the test (parts at cost), so a £2 part doesn’t turn into a fail and a second visit.

Every result written up and explainedWhy Plateline
An MOT centre, not a sales floor. We test, explain and let you decide.
Fail or advisory, you’ll see exactly what we saw, with photos and a fixed price before anything is touched. If it can wait, we’ll tell you. If you’d rather get it fixed elsewhere, that’s fine too.

“Booked online at 9pm, in at 8am the next morning and done before my first coffee was finished. £39.99, no upsell, and they showed me a photo of the one advisory. Easy.”
CClaire W.Titchfield · Google review “Failed on a number plate bulb. They fitted one there and then for a couple of quid and it passed. Last garage charged me a retest for the same thing.”
MMark P.Portchester · Google review “Really honest. Told me the tyres would do another few months rather than selling me two new ones. The waiting area is clean, warm and the wifi works.”
AAisha R.Locks Heath · Google review “Booked the MOT and interim service together and it was cheaper than the service alone at the dealer. Got a text when it was ready.”
TTom H.Stubbington · Google review
“I genuinely won the lifetime MOT draw in September! Thought it was a gimmick. They rang me the same afternoon. Would have come back anyway.”
SSarah K.Titchfield · Google review “Reminder text arrived a month before it was due, booked from the link in under a minute. That's how it should work.”
GGary L.Fareham · Google review “Clear price, no surprises. Car failed on a brake pipe, quote was fair, fixed same day and the retest cost nothing.”
PPriya S.Whiteley · Google review “Third year using Plateline. Always on time, always the same price they quote online. The prize draw is a nice bonus.”

£39.99 for a Class 4 MOT (cars and light vans up to 3,000kg), paid after the test. The legal maximum a test centre can charge is £54.85, so you save £14.86, and the price is the same online, on the phone and on the day.
We show you exactly what failed, with photos, and give you a price before any work. If we carry out the repairs, the retest is free as long as it's within 10 working days. You only pay for work you've approved.
Most MOTs take 45 to 60 minutes. You're welcome to wait in our lounge (free coffee and wifi), or drop the car off and we'll text you when it's ready.
Up to a month minus a day before your current certificate runs out, and you keep the same renewal date. Our due-date checker above works it out for you.
It costs nothing extra: every paid MOT in a calendar month is one entry, automatically, and the price is never raised to cover the prize. On the last working day of the month we draw one winner at random and phone them within 2 working days. They get free Class 4 MOTs on the winning car for as long as they own it. Full terms are on our prize draw terms page.
